Description

An international architecture and design practice is seeking a Principal Designer to join its Health and Safety team.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will support the delivery of a diverse range of projects across the education, healthcare, leisure and retail sectors.

The role of Principal Designer will involve working closely with design teams and clients to ensure effective management of health and safety throughout the pre-construction phase.

Key Responsibilities of a Principal Designer:

  • Assist clients in understanding and complying with their statutory duties under CDM Regulations.
  • Act as the nominated Principal Designer consultant for both internal and external clients.
  • Deliver full Principal Designer services under CDM Regulations 2015, including coordinating design risk management and chairing design team meetings.
  • Lead and contribute to Design Risk Reviews, ensuring risks are identified, eliminated or controlled during the design process.
  • Conduct site health and safety audits where required.
  • Attend meetings with clients, contractors, consultants and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety requirements, procedures and best practice across projects.
Experience
  • Experience working as a Principal Designer or CDM Advisor within a design, consultancy or construction environment.
  • Ability to manage your own workload and deliver projects independently, with support where required.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary project teams.
Qualifications
  • Ideally CMaPS qualified or working towards accreditation.
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in a built environment discipline.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body such as MCABE, MCIOB, RIBA, MRICS, MAPM, MIStructE, MICE or CEng would be advantageous.

This role of Principal Designer offers a salary of £55,000 – £75,000, depending on experience, along with pension, healthcare, profit share and additional company benefits.
